Windows ABS Volume

Windows supports the Absolute Volume feature for Bluetooth audio devices, allowing the system volume and the Bluetooth device’s internal volume to be synchronized. In some cases, users may wish to disable this feature to control the Bluetooth device’s volume independently.

To Enable or Disable Bluetooth Absolute Volume in Windows

  1. Open the Registry Editor (regedit.exe).

  2. Navigate to the following path:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Bluetooth\Audio\AVRCP\CT

Or, you can search for it by selecting Edit → Find,
    entering DisableAbsoluteVolume, and pressing Enter.
  3. Locate or create a DWORD (32-bit) value named DisableAbsoluteVolume.

  4. Set the value as follows:

    • 1 = Disable Absolute Volume

    • 0 (or value not present) = Enable Absolute Volume

  5. Restart the PC for the change to take effect.

Notes

  • This setting applies only to Bluetooth audio devices (e.g., headphones, speakers).

  • When Absolute Volume is disabled, the Windows system volume control and the Bluetooth device volume operate independently, which may change the effective volume range or adjustment precision.

  • Modifying the Windows registry may affect system behavior. It is recommended to back up the registry before making any changes.
